O LORD, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising against me. Many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.” Psalm 3:1-2 (NASB)
King David wrote this Psalm while he was on the run from his own son, who was trying to kill him. And while we may not have physical enemies coming after us like David did, we do have an enemy. His name is Satan.
And he whispers a lie similar to the one David’s enemies told him in Psalm 3: There is no deliverance for you in God.
You see, the enemy wants you to question God—His ways, His Words, His faithfulness and His ability to step in and help.
Why? Because there is power in prayer and so the enemy wants to rob you of your passion for it.
He whispers: “God’s not going to help you.”
“Things will never change.”
“It’s pointless to pray—if God was going to do something, He’d have done it already.”
And sometimes he even interrupts you mid-prayer with a plan B—just in case God doesn’t come through.
Have you ever had thoughts like those while you prayed? I have!
But if you read a little further in Psalm 3, you will come to verse 4 “I was crying to the LORD with my voice and He answered me from His holy mountain.” (NASB)
This is why we need to recognize the lies of the enemy and push past them in prayer. Because God does hear. And He does answer prayer.
So let me ask you:
What situation are you facing that seems hopeless and not worth praying about anymore?
How will you respond differently now that you’ve identified the source of that lie?
There is deliverance for you in God. So don’t let the enemy’s schemes keep you from seeking Him.
