I love watching movies from the golden age of Hollywood. The films are full of award-winning stars who wore glamorous fashions and drove classic cars.
And you know, even today it can be tempting to aspire to those Hollywood standards of luxury—big houses, fancy cars and designer everything.
But if you get interested enough in those old movie stars and start looking them up, you’ll discover something interesting. Many of them have passed away already—leaving behind their prized cars, gowns and even awards to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Psalm 49:16-17 describes this reality when it says: “Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house is increased; for when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not descend after him.” (NASB)
All of us will pass away one day. And just like those old movie stars, we won’t be able to take our possessions with us.
So each of us needs to ask the question: “What am I living for?”
“Am I more focused on building my wealth or my relationship with God?”
There’s nothing wrong with making money, but that shouldn’t be the primary focus of a Christian’s life.
Why? Because money and the things it can buy are temporary! And because we have a better inheritance coming to us:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you…” (1 Peter 1:3-4, NASB)
True wealth isn’t about having much money; it’s about having much of Christ.
So let’s build true wealth today and seek Him.
