Home. We all long for home and for a loving family… and while many of us have these blessings, not everyone does.
Maybe you have gone through life surrounded by people who love you or maybe you’ve had to do life on your own.
But regardless of the situation you were born into, we are all born into the world spiritual orphans
Ever since the fall in Genesis 2, all people were born sinful. And that means that we were born separated from God.
But the Bible tells us that through Christ we can be adopted into God’s own family! John 1:12 says: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,” (NASB)
Another one of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 8:15, which says: “For you have not received a spirit of slavery leadingto fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” (NASB)
God has opened the door of His home to us. And when we enter in, through personal faith in Jesus, we don’t enter as servants who live in fear of their master. We enter God’s house as His children and we cry out “Daddy!” as we walk through the door.
When we accept Christ, we are given a new Father—one who loves us unconditionally, provides for our needs and promises to never leave us or forsake us.
And the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts and brings with Him familial love so that our hearts rejoice and feel at home in the presence of our new Father God.
Praise God for our adoption!
But you know, sometimes I think we as Christians forget that we have been adopted. And we keep on living like we’re orphans—like we’re on our own—always trying to fend for ourselves and living under the weight of rejection.
But we don’t have to live like that anymore.
We are chosen and loved.
And we have a heavenly Father who invites us to depend on Him for all our needs.
As Believers, we are no longer orphans. We are God’s children.
So let me ask you…
Are you still living like you’re a spiritual orphan? And how will knowing that God has adopted you change the way you view yourself and your life?
Our heavenly Father changes everything for us.
